About this course
There is a saying in mathematics: the distance between zero and one is infinite. I would add the difference between a blank page and words on a page is infinite. The difference the stop button and the record button is infinite. It's not the middle part that's the hard part it's the getting started. This course is for anyone who is having trouble creating momentum with their songwriting.
The daily exercises in this workshop are meant to be something you can fit into 10-30 minutes a day using minimal tech setup.
A creative writing exercise I learned from my high school creative writing teacher. This'll get the juices flowin'! Pun intended.
Start with something simple and repeatable. Iterate until it turns into something you like.
Master writing using only sensory language.
Find the melody inherent in every day speech.
Write the lyrics in 10 minutes. Melody 10 minutes. Or just set your timer for 20 minutes.
This week we combine melody, chords and groove.
Skip the superfuluous details. Dive right into the action.
Practice visualizing melodies on paper and diagraming song sections. What shapes are overused, which ones are missing?
Find deeper meaning in ordinary objects.
Either grab chords from another song on ultimate guitar chords, or Use generic chords.
Find two different songs. Smash them into one.
