I am so proud of everyone who threw down on the August EP Challenge. When I first had the idea, my expectations were pretty low—maybe we would get four or five EPs out of the group. We got fourteen!!
a) Creating an EP with a community is waaaaaay easier than creating one in a vacuum.
b) Being able to point to a collection of my work is REALLY satisfying. Even though my songs weren't recorded in a professional studio, I am proud of myself for getting it done, and feel deeply connected with my fellow songwriters who were there right alongside me. And the happy surprises keep rolling in.
c) Having a time-limit forced me to make decisions quickly. This, at times unnerving, process spared me from the downward spiral of perfectionism. I don't think I got the 'perfect take' on every part I tracked, but those imperfections preserve a certain authenticity.
I plan on doing our next EP Challenge mid-winter between the end of our Fall 2020 challenge, and the Spring 2021 challenge. Let me know if you want in on the next one!
